How I Select and Blend My Favorite Scent at a Kobi Co. Workshop
A little behind-the-scenes from Kobi | March 2026
One of the questions I get all the time in our candle-making workshops is:
“How do I know which scents to choose?”
And honestly… the answer is a lot simpler than people think.
You do not have to be a candle expert. You do not need a trained nose. You just have to trust what smells good to you.
When we started Kobi Co., making candles was my way of slowing down and creating a little peace during a really stressful time in the world. Over time I realized something powerful.
The scent you choose can completely change how a space feels.
It can make your room feel calm.
It can make it feel cozy.
It can make it feel joyful.
That is why in our workshops we focus on creating a vibe first, then choosing the scent.
Let me walk you through how I personally approach blending fragrances when we’re in the studio.
Step 1: Think About the Mood
Before I even smell anything, I always ask myself:
How do I want this candle to feel?
Some candles are for relaxing.
Some are for romantic energy.
Some are just fun and sweet.
At Kobi Co., we always say we live at the intersection of scent, sound, and self-care, so I actually think about fragrance the same way I think about music.
Some scents feel like slow R&B.
Some feel like Sunday morning.
Some feel like dancing in the kitchen with your favorite playlist on.
Once you know the mood, the scent usually finds you.
Step 2: Meet Our March Spotlight Scents
Every month we highlight a few fragrances that match the season. For March, we are featuring Rose and Pink Sugar Crystals, and I love this combination so much.
Rose
Rose is one of those scents that instantly makes things feel soft and luxurious.
It has this calm, romantic energy that just slows everything down. It is perfect for journaling, relaxing, or lighting during a quiet self-care night.
And since March is when everything starts blooming again, rose feels like the perfect scent for the season.
It is literally the smell of new beginnings.
Pink Sugar Crystals
Now Pink Sugar is the fun one.
It is sweet, warm, and a little nostalgic. When people smell it, they usually smile immediately.
It reminds me of those carefree moments when life feels light. Music playing, windows open, maybe dancing around the house a little.
Pink Sugar adds this cozy sweetness that balances florals beautifully.
Step 3: Trust Your Nose
When guests come to our workshop, they sometimes overthink it.
But here is the secret I always share:
If you smell something and it makes you smile, that is your scent.
Most people end up choosing two or three fragrances to blend together.
That is where the magic happens.
Blending allows you to create something that is completely your own.
Step 4: My Favorite Spring Blend
One of my favorite combinations right now is:
Rose + Pink Sugar Crystals
The rose gives it that elegant floral vibe, and the Pink Sugar brings warmth and sweetness.
Together it smells like:
Fresh flowers
Soft desserts
Sunlight coming through the window
It feels like spring in a candle.
Step 5: Pour the Candle (My Favorite Part)
After you choose your fragrance blend, we mix it into warm wax and pour it into your candle vessel.
This part never gets old for me.
Watching people create something with their own scent combination is one of my favorite moments in the studio.
When you light that candle later at home, the scent brings you right back to the experience.
The music.
The laughter.
The creativity.
That is what makes it special.
Why We Love This Ritual
For me, candle-making has always been about creating space to breathe.
Scent has a way of grounding you, bringing back memories, and setting the tone for your day.
That is why every candle we make at Kobi Co. is part of a bigger ritual that includes scent, sound, and self-care.
It is not just about making a candle.
It is about creating a moment you can come back to whenever you need it.
